Farming

So I have spent my entire evening playing the new game that is all the rage... FarmVille. Well, that is really not the only thing I did; I was able to multi-task and drink Bailey's Irish Cream, watch Law and Order, American Idol, and King of Queens, AND text my step-mother and my friend. A night well spent though not completely over because I have to harvest my crops in about another hour.

I am very excited in playing this game as I now have a pond on my farm and TWO ducks. They are getting busy, as we speak, behind the chicken coop and I should have duckling waddling about very soon.

Playing this game has brought back some very fond memories for me. Throughout my four years of high school, I participated in Future Farmers of America (FFA). During that four years, I raised 3 sheep and a steer and raised numerous crops. I do not, however, remember it being so simple.

I have cows, horses, sheep, pigs, pigeons, ducks, rabbits, chickens and yes, even a penguine on my farm but the only animals I have to feed are the chickens! Yeah right! We use to have to mix powdered milk to bottle feed the calfs, measure the grain for the pigs and sheep, and oh yeah, clean up all the manuer daily! We use to have to hoe the weeds manually out of our crops and harvesting them was not as simple as "click - make money".

For high school kids from the city, we worked hard on our farm and were so very proud when it came time to showing our animals at the Sacramento County Fair. We would all hang out around the pig pens because that's were all the guys were (guys didn't raise sheep; sheep were for sissys and us girls). Brings a smile to my face as I reminice.

Well it is time for me to go check on my crops. I planted cotton, razzberries, and nachos. Yes, I said nachos. The razzberries and the nachos only take 2 hours to grow while the cotton takes 3 days. Go figure.
